The expanded 12-team College Football Playoff is finally here, degenerates. Four games. Four chances to either pad the bankroll or cry into our eggnog. The first round kicks off TONIGHT with Alabama vs Oklahoma, and the action doesn't stop until Saturday night.

Let's break down every game and find the value.

The Quick Hit

  • Tonight (Dec 19): Alabama vs Oklahoma — Bama -1.5, Total 40.5
  • Saturday: Texas A&M vs Miami (-3), Ole Miss vs Tulane (-16.5), Oregon vs JMU (-21)
  • Sharp action: 76% of money on Miami despite being dogs
  • Biggest favorite: Oregon -21 vs James Madison (yikes)

Friday Night: Alabama vs Oklahoma

Line: Alabama -1.5 (-105) | Total: 40.5

This is essentially a pick 'em, and the betting public is split right down the middle. Early action shows 55% of bets on Oklahoma, 52% of money on the Sooners as well.

The Case for Alabama

Bama is Bama. They've been here before. Jalen Milroe is one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in college football when he's on, and the defense has NFL talent at every level.

The Case for Oklahoma

The Sooners have nothing to lose. They weren't supposed to be here. They're playing with house money, and sometimes that's when teams are most dangerous.

The Play

This total opened at 47.5 and has been bet down to 40.5. SEVEN POINTS of movement. The sharps are screaming under, and when the line moves that aggressively, you listen. Take the under 40.5.

Saturday Afternoon: Texas A&M vs Miami

Line: Texas A&M -3 (-115) | Total: 49.5

This is where it gets interesting. The Aggies opened at -5.5, dropped to -4, and are now sitting at -3. Meanwhile, 76% of the MONEY is on Miami despite only 32% of bets.

What Does That Mean?

Big bettors — the sharps — are hammering Miami. When you see money percentage that heavily diverged from ticket percentage, that's professional action. The squares are taking A&M; the sharks are taking The U.

The Case for Miami

Cam Ward is a Heisman finalist and one of the most electrifying quarterbacks in college football. This offense can score with anyone, and Ward has the arm talent to shred any secondary.

The Case for Texas A&M

The Aggies have the better defense and can control the clock with their ground game. They're also playing at home (sort of — it's in College Station equivalent neutral site).

The Play

Follow the money. Take Miami +3. When 76% of dollars are on one side against the public, you fade the public.

Saturday Evening: Ole Miss vs Tulane

Line: Ole Miss -16.5 | Total: TBD

The biggest spread of the first round, and honestly? It feels about right. Tulane is a good team — they won the AAC — but this is the SEC vs the Group of Five, and Ole Miss has been rolling.

The Play

Three touchdowns is a lot to lay, but Ole Miss should cover. Lane Kiffin's offense is too explosive, and Tulane's defense hasn't seen speed like this all season. Take Ole Miss -16.5 if you can stomach the number.

Saturday Night: Oregon vs James Madison

Line: Oregon -21 | Total: 48.5

Twenty-one points. In the College Football Playoff. Against a team that won the Sun Belt. This feels... disrespectful? Also accurate?

Here's the thing: 73% of bets are on Oregon, but 62% of money is on James Madison. That's reverse action. The sharps think this number is too high.

The Play

JMU is a well-coached team that moves the ball. Oregon might win by 35, or they might sleepwalk into a 28-14 win that doesn't cover. The safer play is JMU +21 or just stay away from this one entirely.

The Bottom Line

The College Football Playoff is here, and the betting market is already giving us signals. The sharps love Miami, they're pounding the under in Bama-Oklahoma, and they think Oregon's spread is too wide.

Best Bets:

  1. Alabama vs Oklahoma UNDER 40.5
  2. Miami +3 vs Texas A&M
  3. JMU +21 vs Oregon (if you're feeling spicy)

It's going to be a hell of a weekend, degenerates. Buckle up.
