Six NHL games tonight with Washington at Vancouver, Pittsburgh in Calgary, and Detroit visiting Toronto. Plus the Avalanche host the Ducks.
By Sharp Money Mike
Wednesday brings six NHL games with a slate full of road tests. The Capitals visit Vancouver. The Penguins head to Calgary. The Red Wings face Toronto. And the Ducks make the trip to Colorado, which probably won't end well for Anaheim.
The Quick Hit
- What happened: Six NHL games on the Wednesday schedule
- The damage: Multiple road favorites, some trap game potential
- Why you should care: Mid-week hockey is where the grinders find value
- The move: Check the goalie matchups before betting anything
The Games
Washington Capitals at Vancouver Canucks | 10:00 PM ET
Logan Thompson gets the start for Washington. Kevin Lankinen in net for Vancouver. The Caps have been solid on the road this season, and Vancouver is fighting for Pacific Division positioning.
This late start means West Coast line movement could shift things before puck drop. Keep an eye on it.
Pittsburgh Penguins at Calgary Flames | 9:00 PM ET
The Penguins on the road. In January. Against a Calgary team that's been scrappy at home. This feels like a stay-away unless you have a strong read on goaltending.
Pittsburgh's season has been a rollercoaster. Some nights they look like contenders. Other nights they look like a team hoping to squeak into a wild card spot. Calgary would love a statement win against a name opponent.
Detroit Red Wings at Toronto Maple Leafs | 7:00 PM ET
The Original Six matchup of the night. Toronto at home should handle business, but the Leafs have a tendency to play down to competition. Detroit isn't going anywhere this year, but they can absolutely steal games on any given night.
Philadelphia Flyers at Utah Hockey Club | 9:00 PM ET
Samuel Ersson starts for Philly. Karel Vejmelka for Utah. Two teams you probably won't see in the playoffs, but someone has to play on Wednesday.
New York Islanders at Seattle Kraken | 10:00 PM ET
Another late start. The Isles have been inconsistent all year. Seattle is trying to stay in the wild card picture. This should be a low-scoring, grinding affair.
Anaheim Ducks at Colorado Avalanche | 9:00 PM ET
The Ducks in Denver. Against the Avalanche. This has all the makings of a blowout. Colorado at home is a problem for everyone, and Anaheim is rebuilding. Spread might be worth a look if you can catch it before it balloons.
Betting Trends to Watch
The under has been hitting in a lot of games this week. Goaltending has been sharp across the league, and some offenses have gone cold in the January doldrums.
If you're playing totals, pay attention to back-to-back situations and recent scoring trends. A team that put up 5 goals last night might come out flat tonight.
The Bottom Line
Wednesday NHL is for the dedicated hockey degenerates. Six games, no marquee national broadcast, just you and the ice.
Washington at Vancouver is probably the most interesting matchup from a betting perspective. Detroit-Toronto has the storylines. Colorado-Anaheim has the lopsided odds.
Pick your spot and let it ride.
