It's going to be cold as hell at Soldier Field tonight. Temps in the teens. Wind chills potentially hitting -11. And 48.5 points on the board for the highest total of the Divisional Round. Welcome to playoff football, degenerates.

The Quick Hit

  • Kickoff: 6:30 PM ET on NBC
  • Spread: Rams -3.5
  • Total: 48.5 (highest of the weekend)
  • Weather: Temps in the teens, gusts up to 40 mph
  • History: First playoff meeting between these teams since the 1985 NFC Championship

The Matchup

The Rams bring the NFL's highest-scoring offense (30.5 points per game) into Chicago. Matthew Stafford threw for 4,707 yards and 46 touchdowns during the regular season—both league-leading marks. Puka Nacua led the NFL with 129 catches and 1,715 receiving yards. Davante Adams added 60 catches for 789 yards and 14 scores.

LA can put up points. That's not in question.

The Bears counter with Caleb Williams, who's led seven fourth-quarter comeback wins this season. The second-year quarterback took a league-high 68 sacks during the regular season—partly because he holds the ball too long, partly because his line couldn't protect him. But when it matters most, he's been clutch.

Last week, Williams mounted the largest postseason comeback in Bears history, erasing an 18-point halftime deficit against the Packers. He threw for more yards in the fourth quarter (184) than he did in the first three combined (177).

The Weather Factor

This is where things get interesting. That 48.5 total was set before the weather report came in. Sustained winds between 15-18 mph with gusts up to 40. Temps in the teens.

The Rams are built around Stafford's arm. Chicago's Soldier Field in January is not kind to finesse offenses. Stafford is 2-4 in his career in sub-freezing temperatures. The wind will affect both passing games, but LA relies on theirs more.

If you're thinking about the under, the weather makes a compelling case. If you think LA can run the ball effectively and Stafford can manage the elements, the over is still in play given both offenses' capabilities.

Sharp Money Says

Models are giving the Bears a slight edge. Dimers has Chicago +4 at -110 with a 56.5% probability and a 4.1% edge. That's the strongest NFL play they've identified for Sunday.

The Bears have covered in 10 of their last 14 games. They're 7-1 at home in their last eight. The Rams have dropped two straight ATS on the road.

But LA finished 13-5 and led the league in scoring. They're battle-tested and have the offensive firepower to overcome weather concerns.

The Williams Factor

Caleb Williams is appointment television in the fourth quarter. Nobody else in the league has led seven comeback wins. He takes too many sacks, but he also makes plays when the game is on the line.

Tonight we find out if that magic translates against a Rams defense that can generate pressure without blitzing. Aaron Donald is gone, but this LA front can still get home.

The Bottom Line

This is the game of the weekend. The highest total. The coldest conditions. Two quarterbacks who can light it up. Give me Bears +3.5 if you're looking for value—Chicago at home in the cold with a quarterback who's been clutch all year feels like the right side.
